BALI, INDONESIA

Sacred Arts Purification Retreat
JUNE 12 - 25 2012

Yoga in Bali
On retreat we’ll enjoy two yoga classes on most days in a warm tropical environment. Incorporate the color and texture of this lush land as we immerse into Bali’s Hindu culture through, daily yoga, temple visits, healers, bodywork, hikes, and healthy foods. Bali's people, arts, and environment demonstrate sacred devotion in all practices, this will be the connecting theme in our purification immersion.

Art and Culture
In Bali, art is part of religion and in some cases, healing. This trip includes several performances of Balinese music and dance. Some are private, some part of regular tourist performances, and some take place at temple festivals. All are of the highest quality.

Mysticism
Purification ceremonies are an important part of Bali Hindu religious cycles. Usually held during times of stress, plague, or purification, these ceremonies are held within the village temples. During the rituals, those who fall into trance communicate the wishes of the high and low spirits to their attentive observers. Our trip includes purification at the elegant temple and Sacred Springs of Tampaksiring.

The Balian
Besides visiting a western-style doctor when ill, the Balinese consult a Balian, a traditional healer. These men and women work in different ways: some mix herbal remedies; some create drawings of magical inscriptions and symbols to protect the wearer; and some, while in trance, communicate messages from the Bali Hindu deities that dictate the creation of certain offerings and ceremonies. Visits with 3 local esteemed Balian to watch them work are included in our itinerary.
